Justin Bieber Reflected on His DUI Arrest in an Instagram Post
“Seven years ago today I was arrested, not my finest hour.”
Justin Bieber is getting reflective in his latest Instagram post and revisiting his 2014 DUI arrest. On January 23, the musician shared an introspective post about the events of seven years ago and the lessons he's learned since. He even paired the lengthy caption with a vulnerable image of himself being led away in handcuffs.
"Seven years ago today I was arrested, not my finest hour. Not proud of where I was at in my life. I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, mislead, misunderstood and angry at God," Justin wrote. "I also wore too much leather for someone in Miami. All this to say God has brought me a long way. From then til now I do realize something ... God was as close to me then as he is right now."
According to Justin, the arrest reminds him of how far he's made it in life since that dark moment, and he attributes a great deal of his progress to his faith. The post has since garnered tons of supportive comments from everyone from Justin's manager Scooter Braun to Bella Hadid to, of course, his wife Hailey.
Justin was arrested at age 19 on January 23, 2014 in Miami on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the time, E! News reported that his blood alcohol level was under the legal limit, but he had Xanax and marijuana in his system. Bieber was also charged with resisting arrest and driving without a valid license. He eventually pleaded guilty to reduced charges and was required to take classes and make a charitable donation.
Since then, Justin has been very open about his mental health struggles and has also given fans a peek into his life via a docuseries called Seasons. It's clear that he's now in a happier and healthier place than he was in 2014, and continuing to reflect on the lessons learned.
